Vote for us

New

  • A new Vote for us page (Social menu, or the calendar on your desk): vote for Vesper City on gaming top sites and get a thank-you once the site confirms your vote. Top sites are being added soon.

Fixed

  • Nothing broken this time.

  • From the city map you can look around other districts before you travel there.
  • On phones, drag the neighbourhood and tap a building to see what it offers.

Across the city by tram

New

  • The painted city map: in the Graphical view, drag and zoom across the whole of Vesper City. See gang turf and wars, events and landmarks, and closer in, your friends who are out and about, your rival and any bounty on you.
  • The tram: no car, no problem. The tram takes you anywhere for free, in the time walking used to take. With a working car you can drive instead, faster, for the usual fare.

Improved

  • Messages in the Graphical view now pop up in the corner instead of pushing your desk down.
  • The newspaper on your desk says how many new stories are waiting, and the bottle on your desk got a proper paint job.

Fixed

  • Nothing broken this time.

Your desk

New

  • In the Graphical view, home is now your desk: the telephone for mail, the map, the Evening Racket, the ledger for your money and homes, the case file for your gang, the drawer for your things, the calendar, the bottle for a night out, the fedora to go out, and the gramophone for the radio.
  • Look up to the office wall: help, the Gold Store, your medals, the leaderboards, your wanted poster, your account and more.
  • Your desk gets a little finer as you rise through the levels.

Improved

  • A crime's success message now leads with your XP and spells out your Respect, so the numbers are clear at a glance.

Fixed

  • Nothing broken this time.

Release notes · Version 0.9.18 ·

The city, full screen

New

  • The Graphical view is now a full-screen game: no website around it, just a slim bar with your portrait, bars, cash and the clock. Pages open over the city.
  • "Where to?": press Ctrl+K (or the button) and type where you want to go.
  • The radio: two stations, Vesper Nights and The Speakeasy, with shuffle, repeat, a track list, volume and mute. It starts with your first click and remembers your choices.
  • New players start in the Graphical view. You can switch to Classic at any time.

Improved

  • The wiki now covers every part of the city, in five languages.

Fixed

  • Nothing broken this time.

Come and say hi

New

Improved

  • Pages open faster, so buildings on the street open almost instantly.
  • Links to the game shared on Discord, X and elsewhere now show the city's picture.
  • Gold can no longer be traded on the Bazaar for now; Gold stays yours and works everywhere else.

Fixed

  • The Spanish, French, Portuguese and German home pages could show an error.

Streets and wars

New

  • Gang ranks: name your own ranks and choose what each one may do, from inviting and kicking to raising the gang and declaring war.
  • Gang treasury withdrawals: each rank gets a daily share, every withdrawal needs a reason, large ones wait 12 hours and are announced, and every dollar shows in the gang's ledger.
  • If a Don leaves or goes missing, the highest-ranked active member takes the chair.
  • Gang wars in your home district: declare, set your demands, talk it out or fight it out. Sign up for the war roster, beat the other gang's fighters and push your score to victory. Every war has its own public war board.
  • The gang vault: money kept apart from the treasury, opened with the Vault wing.
  • District streets: the new Graphical view shows the district you're standing in as a street of buildings you can walk into. Switch between Classic and Graphical from the top bar or your Account page. Classic stays exactly as it was.
  • Wanted posters: print a wanted poster of your character to share with friends.
  • The city newsletter: opt in from your Account page to hear what's new once a month.

Improved

  • Money lines in your ledger and city notices now show in your own language.
  • The French game now speaks to you as "tu" everywhere.
  • Iron medals have their own art, and robbing the fish market till has its picture.

Fixed

  • Nothing broken this time.

A city you can walk into

New

  • The Graphical view now plays like a game: buildings open right over the street, your bars and cash update by themselves, notes pop up when something happens to you, and results land where you are: the stamp on the crime card, cash counting up, bars draining.
  • Quick actions: press ⚡ (or right-click, or long-press) on a building to train with all your energy, work your shift, repeat your last crime, deposit all your cash and more, without leaving the street.
  • On phones, the Graphical view is now an app: five tabs at the bottom, a swipeable street of building cards, and buildings that open as sheets.
  • The whole city has been repainted.
  • Six landmarks are open: the Herbalist in Chinatown, the Social Club in Little Sicily (weekly Family contracts and a recruiting board), the Fence in Old Harbor (with a weekly hot list), the union hall in Ironworks (union shifts and the odd strike), the Shipment in Docklands (a ship every Saturday) and the Courthouse on Capitol Hill (a lawyer, a judge who can be bought, and police records cleared).
  • Every special building on the streets has its own story, Saint's church has a candle to light once a day, and the soup kitchen feeds newcomers.
  • Gang wars: names on the roster who never fight now cost their own gang points, a beaten gang can lose spoils to the winner, and small gangs get a fair share of the score.
  • Founders of Vesper City: everyone who helped test the city gets a Founder mark, the title "Founder of Vesper City" and a Founder portrait.

Improved

  • Mail opens at level 3, and newcomers can send up to 10 letters a day until level 10.
  • Bank interest is paid only on money that stayed in the bank.
  • Faces now show in leaderboards and your friends list, and Your record has a new Social tab.
  • Your inventory figure follows your character, and the fight face-off shows a proper silhouette for players without a portrait.

Fixed

  • Signing in could skip some of what should happen at sign-in, such as waking a sleeping gang.
  • A paid profile picture could be refunded twice, a name change could be charged twice, and dividends could be paid twice.
  • The inventory and drinks pages had a small error that stopped some buttons working.
  • The night-out page's columns were uneven.

Release notes · Version 0.9.14 ·

Tools of the trade

New

  • Tools are now equipped: three tool slots on your figure, a fourth at level 20 and a fifth at level 35. Crimes use the tools you have equipped.
  • If a tool is in your bag but not equipped, the crime card tells you and takes you straight to it.

Improved

  • Your best tools were equipped for you, so nothing you could do yesterday is out of reach today.

Fixed

  • Nothing broken this time.

Release notes · Version 0.9.13 ·

Faces, fists and a suitcase full of trouble

New

  • Choose your face: 24 noir portraits at character creation (under "Or choose a ready-made face") or any time in Account, plus three faces you have to earn: the Original Member, the Silver Fox and the Don's Own.
  • Fights play out face to face: both portraits, health bars, every blow round by round, and a knockout banner. Skip, replay or double speed.
  • Your inventory is an open suitcase, with a figure beside it showing what you wear, including new hat and coat slots.
  • Crime cards got the full treatment: an odds dial, a stack of banknotes for the take, a heat thermometer and your gear at a glance.

Improved

  • Your level is now a badge with a ring that fills as you go, and districts show their danger in skulls.

Fixed

  • A news post no longer promises dates.
